Samolis House, South Kingstown, Rhode Island
The design of this 4,000 square foot shorefront home is a compilation of visual images inspired by the owner’s love of Victorian, Shingle Style and Cape-Cod style architecture scattered along the New England coastline. Large colonnaded porches and balconies are extensions of the interior spaces. Similarly exterior finishes are frequently carried indoors to create an ambiguity between interior and exterior spaces. The main entry of the house is marked with a dramatic twelve foot diameter “wagon wheel” punch-out that links the two primary masses of the home and creates a roof-top terrace area.
