The area is considered the vacation playground of the midwest, with people from Chicago and beyond docking their vessels along the shores. The plan called for the extension of the city grid into the revitalized post-industrial waterfront. Plans included a 200 room conference center and hotel and a retail marketplace. The design process included working with local civic leaders and community members to assist them in reclaiming their waterfront.
